Contemporary Asian Theater Scene (CATS) is proud to announce the Dr. Jerry Hiura Inspiration Award 2022, a celebration of young Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) artists who embody the spirit of creativity, community, and transformation through the arts.

About the Dr. Jerry Hiura Inspirational Awards

Established in honor of our late co-founder, Dr. Jerry Hiura—a poet, artist, jewelry maker, and musician—the Dr. Jerry Inspirational Awards celebrate his legacy of supporting Asian American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) in the arts.

2022 Theme: How Can We Make the World A Better Place?

The Dr. Jerry Hiura Artistic Challenge invites young AAPI artists to respond to an ever-relevant and urgent question: “How Can We Make the World a Better Place?”

This challenge encourages youth to reflect on the power of art as a force for change—whether through painting, music, film, dance, writing, or mixed media. Participants are asked to explore how their work can inspire action, build empathy, or spark important conversations in their communities.
