Accepting Non-Equity Actor Submissions for AAPI Playwright Festival

Contemporary Asian Theater Scene (CATS), in collaboration with award-winning director and playwright Jeffrey Lo, is happy to announce the return of its annual Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Playwright Festival. This one-of-a-kind theater arts experience fosters and showcases the talent of existing and emerging local Bay Area AAPI theater artists, writers, actors, directors, stagehands, and other talent.

We are casting Bay Area-based Non-Equity performers for staged readings of the six ten-minute plays that make up the AAPI Playwright Festival.

Actors will be given an Honorarium of $200.

Important Dates

  • Submissions Due: July 7, 2025 at 11:59 PM

  • Initial Table Read: TBD

  • Rehearsals: July 21-24, 2025 at the CATS Office Issei Memorial Building/SJ Japantown

  • Dress Rehearsal: July 25, 2025

  • Final Performances: July 26, 2025 at the San Jose Stage Company

About the Playwrights

This year’s playwrights are: Marissa Martinez, Conrad A. Panganiban, Lisa Marie Rollins, Kenna Tanaka, and Jenny Nguyen Nelson, with directors Reed Flores and Tasi Alabastro. Read more about the event and the playwrights here.

Submission Instructions

To audition, please submit a video of two contrasting monologues totaling no more than 3 minutes to a watchable YouTube or Vimeo link, along with a headshot and resume.

SUBMISSIONS DUE BY JULY 7, 2025 AT 11:59 PM.
