Casting Call - Young AAPI Actors

Casting Call — Sisters Mastumoto

Contemporary Asian Theater Scene (CATS) is seeking AAPI high school/college/recent graduates/young adults for a unique Staged Reading of SISTERS MATSUMOTO by Philip Kan Gotanda.

Casting call period extended to March 29th, 2026.

AVAILABLE ROLES

Grace Matsumoto (44) – eldest sister; strong, practical, determined

Chiz Matsumoto (39) – outspoken, bold; mother of a young baby

Rose Matsumoto (27) – thoughtful, sensitive, searching for direction

Hideo – Grace's husband

Bola – Chiz's husband

Henry – suitor/family friend

Mr. Hersham – neighbor and long-time family friend

This Staged Reading will be presented with two public performances, uniquely immersed within the agricultural exhibit area at the Japanese American Museum of San Jose. There is a stipend provided for participating in the performance.

Rehearsals including tech and dress will be held the week of June 15th and several virtual rehearsals TBD in April and May.

Performance dates: Friday and Saturday, June 19, and 20, 2026.

Submit resume, headshot and a viewable link to a one-minute contemporary monologue to: info@catsasiantheaterscene.org with subject: 2026 SISTERS M AUDITION.

Deadline to submit is Sunday, March 29, 2026.

CALLBACK INFORMATION

Callbacks, by invitation, will be held via ZOOM during the week of March 30. Callback audition will consist of cold reads from the script. Sides will be provided. (No memorization required.)
